How this works
Your monthly retirement income has three parts: (1) portfolio withdrawals at your chosen withdrawal rate, (2) Social Security, and (3) any pension. The withdrawal rate (commonly 4%) is applied to your total balance and divided by 12 for a monthly amount.
The "How Long Will My Money Last?" link above prefills the depletion calculator using only your portfolio withdrawal as spending — useful for seeing how long the portfolio piece alone holds up.
